Our complete walkthrough for Pok¨Śmon Sword and Shield.
The Energy Plant and Chairman Rose, alongside a foe called Eternatus are your next objectives, and follow on from your return to the Slumbering Wield in your quest through Pokémon Sword and Shield's main story.
On each page of our walkthrough like this, we'll cover any and all of the obtainable Pokémon, item locations, trainers and their teams that you might come across here, as well as walking you through any key steps of the story, puzzles or challenges along the way.
Where applicable, note that our walkthrough pages will be down into separate sections referring to each of your visits to a given location, seeing as you often backtrack or revisit various places in your quest to become Galar League Champion. And of course if there are any, we'll clearly mark any spoilers, too!

Pokémon Sword and Shield: Energy Plant and Chairman Rose
Showdown time! If you're here you'll have collected the Rusty Sword or Rusty Shield from the Slumbering Weald and travlled back to Hammerlocke to finally get a look inside that mysterious Energy Plant, in the hope of stopping Chairman Rose's disastrous plan.
Well, the Energy Plant turns out to be pretty simple. After some conversations with Raihan and Oleana in Hammerlocke, take the now-open lift down to the basement from inside the Gym Stadium building and Rose will be waiting for you in the plant's apparently only room: a big, circular chamber. It looks like something's caused a real mess - and it turns out Rose has awoken a Pokémon called Eternatus, the thing that caused the original Darkest Day!
Rose still won't let you stop it, though. Take him down!
How to beat Chairman Rose
Trainer | Pokémon | Level |
---|---|---|
Macro Cosmos's Rose | Escavalier Ferrothorn Klinklang Perrserker Copperajah (Gigantamax) | Lv.55 Lv.55 Lv.56 Lv.55 Lv.57 |
After a lecture about Wishing Stars and the like, you'll battle Rose. He's a Steel-type user, like everyone else from Macro Cosmos, and so all five of his Pokémon are weak to Fire-type attacks. In fact, Escavalier and Ferrothorn are both 4x weak to Fire!
Fighting and Ground are also super effective against everything but that first Escavalier, so they'll work great too. That includes against his Copperajah, which he Gigantamaxes at the end of the battle. Gigantamax your own Pokémon when he brings it out and you should have no trouble!
With Rose defeated, save up, heal up, and take the lift up to the roof, to meet the still-Champion Leon.
With it finally in the wild, here's how to start the Crown Tundra DLC and our full Pokémon Crown Tundra walkthrough. Plus, here's how to catch Calyrex, Glastrier and Spectrier, the Regieleki and Regidrago puzzle solution and Regirock, Regice, Registeel locations, details on how to catch Legendary Birds Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres in the Crown Tundra, the Ultra Beasts and Necrozma adventure, Dynamax Adventures, including the legendries you can catch on these adventures, and the new Crown Tundra Pokédex and returning Pokémon explained. For Isle of Armor players, here's how to find the Slowpoke, where to find Max Mushroom locations, and how to get Kubfu, become best friends and evolve it, plus all Diglett locations too! For the base game, here's info on the ability to transfer Pokémon to Pokémon Home, the Wild Area, lists of all TM locations and TRs, all Galarian forms and finally our main Pokémon Sword and Shield walkthrough for the whole game.
Pokémon Sword and Shield: how to beat and catch Eternatus
Up on the roof of the Energy Plant you'll find Leon locked in battle with Eternatus. He's struggling, and tries to catch it - but the Poké Ball explodes!
It's time to try and take it on yourself. Eternatus is the strongest thing you've faced, and the battle has two stages, eventually taking the form of a kind of Max Raid Battle. Eternatus is Poison and Dragon-type, and uses Cross Poison, Dragon Pulse, Flamethrower and its signature move Dynamax Cannon, giving it great type coverage. It's weak to Ice, Ground, Psychic and Dragon - your best options from those are Ground and Psychic-type Pokémon, as the others it'll sweep through quickly with its moveset.
It'll be a tough battle, and you can't catch it at first, so knock it out and wait for the second phase, where it'll fly up into the sky and it's time for that raid phase, with Hop pairing up with you to help out - just like those two Galar heroes of old!
Every now and then you won't be able to use any moves at all, but eventually it's time to pull out your Rusty Sword or Shield, and something in the Slumbering Weald will awaken...
Now, with the help of your new wolfy friend, you can use your moves and get to work. Zacian and Zamazenta will carry you pretty hard, but you can still chip away with some damage. Once you finally knock out Eternatus for good, you'll be able to catch it with any ball!
