Unova Week research tasks are a series of limited-time challenges in Pokémon Go that are part of the Ultra Unlock bonuses, which were unlocked by Go Fest 2020 attendees.
There are three Ultra Unlock bonus weeks in total - Dragon Week and Enigma Week have already happened, making Unova Week the last. During this week, you can enjoy a variety of activities from catching new Pokémon to completing research tasks.
These tasks can be found by spinning PokéStops, alongside the current roster of monthly research tasks, which are currently available. If you're looking for a specific task, then you may have to visit multiple PokéStops!

The Wild Area 2024: Global event is this weekend! Throughout it you can catch Pokémon during the habitat hours, use Safari Balls, catch Mighty Pokémon, battle Gigantamax Toxtricity, obtain both Toxtricity Forms and catch a Studded Jacket Snorlax. If you've purchased an event ticket, you can also complete the An Accomplished Trainer quest. You can now catch Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles. First, however, you need to visit Power Spots to collect Max Particles and complete the To the Max! quest. Don't forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.
What else do you need to know about Unova Week in Pokémon Go?
The main bonus of Unova Week, apart from the research tasks, is that it sees the release of seven new Gen 5 Pokémon into Pokémon Go.
These Pokémon are:
- Sewaddle
- Swadloon
- Leavanny
- Cottonee
- Whimsicott
- Emolga
- Bouffalant
While Sewaddle and Cottonee, alongside other Pokémon from the Unova region, will appear in 7km eggs, Bouffalant will become the latest regional exclusive Pokémon to be found in the game.
Bouffalant will only be available to trainers in New York City, USA and the area surrounding the metropolis. You will also have the chance to hatch it from any 5km eggs that are collected from PokéStops in this area.
Aside from Bouffalant, the other six Pokémon will appear in the wild worldwide and will appear more frequently during Unova Week.
Other Gen 5 Pokémon will also appear more frequently during this week, such as Roggenrola. This means that, if you catch enough Roggenrolas, you might be able to obtain its third stage evolution, Gigalith, without having to use trade evolution. You might even encounter a shiny Roggenrola, which are also being released during this week.
Finally, Genesect, after being released originally as part of the paid 'A Drive to Investigate' special research quest, will be available to all players in five-star raids. If luck is on your side, you may have the opportunity to catch a shiny Genesect!
Good luck in catching all the new Pokémon in Unova Week!
