Footprint locations in Pokémon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra explained

Shortly into your journey across the Crown Tundra in Pokémon Sword and Shield, you'll find yourself in the village of Freezington. If you decide to take the far-right path out of the village, the one next to the house where Peony sets up his base camp, you'll run into Sonia.

She's visiting the Crown Tundra in an attempt to find more legendary Pokémon and, as you talk to her, you'll both notice a set of Iron Will Footprints underneath a nearby tree.

Sonia will explain how she believes that the Cavern, Grassland and Iron Will Pokémon - also known as Terrakion, Virizion and Cobalion - are hiding within the Crown Tundra and that the footprints you spotted were made by one of them.

To find these legendary Pokémon, however, you'll need more evidence and that's why Sonia wants you to explore the Crown Tundra, finding more footprints, until you've gathered enough to locate one of the legendary Pokémon.

There are three different kinds of footprints that you can find - Cavern Footprints lead to Terrakion, Grassland Footprints to Virizion and gathering Iron Will Footprints result in a battle with Cobalion.

Each set of footprints you find will grant you 2% worth of evidence, meaning that, to reach 100%, you'll need to find a total of 50 footprints.

All three footprints types have been assigned to three specific locations within the Crown Tundra, with footprint sets appearing randomly and respawning.

This means that there are no specific exactly-on-this-spot locations for the footprints. Instead, you can explore the Crown Tundra at your leisure, collecting footprints until you've reached the 100% mark.

You can check your progress by talking to Sonia - she can be found in the house to the right of Peony's - and, once you've reached 100% worth of evidence, you'll want to return to her, so that she can tell you where to find each legendary Pokémon.

Cavern Footprint locations in Pokémon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra explained

Collecting the Cavern Footprints will eventually lead you to Terrakion in the Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield.

You can find Cavern Footprints in the southernmost regions of the Crown Tundra:

• Ballimere Lake
• Dyna Tree Hill
• Lakeside Cave

The footprints you're looking for a dark brown, almost black, but do easily stand out across the landscape you'll be exploring.

We found that the best place to find Cavern Footprints was inside the Lakeside Cave. In the main section of this cave, you'll easily find a good number of footprints, often close together to create a small trail.

In Ballimere Lake, you'll find footprints by trees, near the entrance to Lakeside Cave and around the water's edge. Once you find a set of footprints have a look around the nearby area to discover if, like within the Lakeside Cave, these prints are part of a trail.

When it comes to Dyna Tree Hill, you'll most likely find the footprints at the base of the small incline leading to the top of the hill. We didn't, however, find many footprints in this location, so recommend focusing your search on the other two, larger, areas.

Once you've reached 100% worth of evidence, head back to Sonia in Freezington and she'll figure out where Terrakion is hiding.

Grassland Footprint locations in Pokémon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra explained

Gathering 100% from finding Grassland Footprints in the Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield will unlock an encounter with Virizion.

The Grassland Footprints are located in the areas directly south of Freezington:

• Frostpoint Field
• Giant's Bed
• Old Cemetery

These footprints are a light green colour, which can make them rather hard to find in the grassy landscape of Giant's Bed and Old Cemetery.

Compared to the other footprints, you may find the Grassland Footprints harder to find as they are spread further apart and are less likely to be part of look trails like the Cavern Footprints. Keep searching though - you'll reach a 100% eventually!

When searching for Grassland Footprints in the Giant's Head, try looking around the base of trees and near areas of vegetations. Here you'll hopefully find at least one set of footprints and, if you're lucky, there will be another set placed a short distance away. If there isn't, however, we suggest moving on to another part of this area.

It's also a good idea to check around the edges of grass and the walls of these locations.

We found that the southern part of Giant's Bed, past Old Cemetery, was one of the best places to find Grassfield Footprints and, if you're lucky, you might even find the occasional Iron Will Footprint here too.

You may also find a good number of Grassfield Footprints near the Regirock shrine in Giant's Bed.

Due to the lack of vegetation in Frostpoint Field, you probably won't find many footprints in this location. Thankfully, those you do find will be easy to spot as the green glow of the footprints stands out well against the snow.

After finding 50 sets of Grassland Footprints, head back to Sonia in Freezington and discover exactly where Virizion is located.

Iron Will Footprint locations in Pokémon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra explained

Finding Iron Will Footprints will eventually lead to a battle with Cobalion in the Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Aside from the first set you'll find with Sonia, you'll be able to discover more Iron Will Footprints in the eastern regions of the Crown Tundra:

• Frigid Sea
• Giant's Foot
• Roaring-Sea Caves
• Southern part of Giant's Bed - past Old Cemetery

Iron Will Footprints have a blue colouring, making them easy to spot on both snow and grassland.

These footprints are by far the easiest to find in the Crown Tundra. Once you find one set, you'll easily discover more nearby as the majority of Iron Will Footprints are part of a trail. This means that you can easily head to one main location, such as Roaring-Sea Caves, you gather the majority of the evidence you need.

The Roaring-Sea Caves are, by far, the best place to conduct your search for Iron Will Footprints. Not only are the footprints easy to spot against the cave floor, but they are usually part of a trail, even if there's a sizable gap between each print.

If you explore this cave system thoroughly, you'll most likely be able to gather the majority of the evidence you need here.

The small areas of land in the Frigid Sea also hold a good number of footprints; you can find them on the shore areas and on the small island in the middle of the sea.

In the Giant's Foot, you'll be able to find footprints nearby the grass and by the edge of the river.

You can even find Iron Will Footprints in the southern part of the Giant's Bed, which lies past Old Cemetery. In this area, you might also find a number of Grassland Footprints, making this a great area to search if you still need to locate both Cobalion and Virizion.

Once you've found 50 sets of Iron Will Footprints, it's time to head back to Sonia and discover the location of Cobalion in the Crown Tundra.

With all three sets of footprints collected, you can add Cobalion, Terrakion and Virizion to your Crown Tundra Pokédex and you can catch Keldeo!
