They've done it. They've finally done it. After a frustrating Spotlight Hour and a disappointing, non-Halloweeny Community Day, they've added our favourite [checks notes]... Poison Fish Pokémon... into the game. So close, Pokémon Company. So close...
Paldean Wooper, the answer to the question 'What happens to a fish out of water?' is joining the game on November's Community Day - a reoccurring Pokémon Go event that celebrates a specific Pokémon, while boosting shiny rates and offering an exclusive move, along with a whole host of other bonuses!
Since both Wooper and Paldean Wooper will be spawning en masse throughout the event, this is the best chance we've had for catching an Wooper with 100% perfect IV stats and, if you achieve this feat, it's a good idea to know both evolutions, Quagsire and Clodsire's best movesets.
Even if you're not fussed on this month's Community Day Pokémon, there are a multiple other bonuses that may get you out and about, including the Pokémon Breeder's favourite: the quarter hatch-distance bonus.

Wooper's 100% perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go
November's Community Day is the perfect opportunity to find a Wooper with perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go.
For Wooper, the CP values which correspond to perfect 15/15/15 stats are as follows:
- Level 30 (wild CP maximum) -- 550 CP
- Level 35 (weather boosted CP maximum) -- 596 CP
Wooper's wild CP value aligns with your current Trainer Level until you reach Level 30, so, since the majority of the player base is above this level, we keep to these values for the sake of simplicity. If you're currently beneath Level 30, however, these values will be different.
Perfect for the Master League and raids means exclusively 15/15/15 - the best possible stats that a Pokémon can have.
Perfect stats in Pokémon Go, however, depend entirely on what you want to use your Pokémon for.
Meanwhile, perfect for Great League and Ultra League are completely different, as the goal is to get the highest level you can without going over the CP cap (1500 for Great League and 2500 for Ultra League). Since attack raises CP more than defence, the highest-level Pokémon in these leagues tend to have low attack and high defence.
If you want to run Quagsire or Clodsire in those two leagues, you're looking for different stats:
- A perfect Great League Quagsire is 0/15/14, reaching 1499 CP at Level 29
- A perfect Great League Clodsire is 0/14/13, reaching 1500 CP at Level 30.5
- A perfect Ultra League Quagsire is 15/15/15, reaching 2252 CP at Level 50
- A perfect Ultra League Clodsire is 15/15/15, reaching 2207 CP at Level 50
Wooper evolution chart: What do Wooper and Paldean Wooper evolve into?
Wooper evolves into Quagsire with 50 Wooper Candy in Pokémon Go, and it's Iberian cousin, Paldean Wooper, evolves into Clodsire -- a tough mudder from the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games. These are two very different Pokémon, and which one you want to use depends on a multitude of factors.
The theme here is a little odd -- the idea is that Wooper got turfed out of the water and had to grow up on land. Bizarrely, this axolotl now evolves into a blobfish (don't Google it, they're pretty gross-looking) with a pufferfish-like defence.
The real question, of course, is why living above the water line makes them a Poison-type. Pufferfish, for example, are famously water-based creatures...

Wooper: This Pokémon lives in cold water. It will leave the water to search for food when it gets cold outside.
Paldean Wooper: After losing a territorial struggle, Wooper began living on land. The Pokémon changed over time, developing a poisonous film to protect its body.
Quagsire: It has an easy-going nature. It doesn't care if it bumps its head on boats and boulders while swimming.
Clodsire: When attacked, this Pokémon will retaliate by sticking thick spines out from its body. It's a risky move that puts everything on the line.
November's Community Day event runs between 2pm and 5pm (local time), so you'll have three hours to gather as much Wooper Candy as possible, to ensure you can fully evolve it!
If you're hurting for candy, use Pinap Berries and Silver Pinap Berries to double the amount of candy you earn from catching, and make sure to have a Ground-type Pokémon mega evolved - Primal Groudon, Mega Swampert or Mega Steelix are great options here.
Quagsire's moves and best moveset recommendation
Quagsire and Clodsire are reasonable in Go Battle League, but for different reasons and with a few caveats. Each has its strong and weak points to aware of. Both are tanks in Go Battle League, but Clodsire has somehow wound up with a lacklustre moveset, against what we were all hoping for.
It's also worth noting that while Quagsire was already respectable in Great League, it is getting an exclusive Community Day move: Aqua Tail. This absolutely worth adding to your impenetrable tank of water.
As for Ultra League, your returns fall off pretty quickly - Quagsire's tankiness becomes less of a buff, and we don't expect Clodsire to quite make a dent just yet. Master League is a write off, given both Clodsire and Quagsire's stats.
So, how exciting is Aqua Tail on Quagsire?
It's STAB, which is great, and it's cheaper than any other attack Quagsire can run. Until now, our recommended moveset was Mud Shot, Mud Bomb and Stone Edge as a second charged move. We now recommend swapping Stone Edge for Aqua Tail, to make your tank that much STABbier and spammier.

Clodsire's moves and best moveset recommendation
So, how does Clodsire fare in Go Battle League? As mentioned, it's incredibly tanky, but its moves aren't quite as exciting as we had hoped, relative to how much of a beast it is in the main-series games. This doesn't mean that it's bad -- quite the opposite, pulling in wins against the likes of Registeel, Azumarill, Umbreon and Lanturn -- just don't go in expecting God-tier wins.
It's also worth noting that Clodsire's exclusive Community Day move is Megahorn. While this is a big-damage move, and a great coverage nuke, it's not what we're looking for here. The moves you are looking for are: Poison Sting, Earthquake and Sludge Bomb.
As for Ultra League, the same thing happens as did to its cousin: the tankiness becomes less of a buff. Master League is a write off, given how Clodsire maxes out at less than 2500 CP.

You can now catch Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles. First, however, you need to visit Power Spots to collect Max Particles and complete the To the Max! quest. Don't forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.
What do shiny Wooper, Palean Wooper, Quagsire and Clodsire and Quagsire and Clodsire look like?
The opportunity to catch a shiny form of the highlighted Pokémon is one of the biggest draws of any Community Day event. This is thanks to the increased shiny rate for the event's highlighted Pokémon combined with how catching Pokémon of the same type naturally increases said rate making it easier to encounter shinies.
To find a shiny Pokémon, you need to either start a catch encounter with a Pokémon in the wild or earn said encounter by completing an activity like a raid. From there, it's easy to see if you've encountered a shiny Pokémon due to its alternative colouring, the sparkles that appear when the encounter begins and the shiny icon next to the Pokémon's name.
While Wooper and Quagsire's shinies have been available for a while -- they were released back in December 2020 as part of the Wooper Watch -- this is the debut of the Paldean version, which means if you're missing any Wooper-family shinies, you've never had a better chance to hunt them out!

Johtonian & Paldean Wooper Shiny Comparisons

As you can see, the baby blue Wooper becomes pink, swapping its purple spines for a peach-colour and its navy stripes for a darker pink. It's truly excellent because it makes Wooper look like what it's supposed to be -- a happy little axolotl!
Quagsire, meanwhile, swaps its blues for purples. We never have and never will complain about purple Pokémon because they look awesome.
This brings us to the Paldeans: Paldean Wooper cosplays as its Johtonian cousin by swapping brown for lilac, and lilac for a golden brown. It's a good effort, little buddy, we're proud of you for trying.
As for Clodsire, it copies Paldean Wooper's homework and goes for a bluer shade -- somewhere between navy and purple -- landing where you'd expect a Poison/Ground-types colouring to land.
These are all pretty decent shinies, and we're excited for the chance to add them to our collections.
If you want to evolve shiny Wooper or shiny Paldean Wooper, we recommend waiting until after the event, where you will have until five hours (until 10pm local time) to evolve and gain the exclusive moves. This way you'll have ample time to, hopefully, catch a couple of shiny Wooper, along with enough candy to evolve them, without having to worry about sorting through your collection at the same time. Remember, it's a good idea to check your shiny Wooper's stats, because it might have perfect IVs - making it even better for battle!
Evolving a shiny Wooper will add a shiny Quagsire and evolving shiny Paldean Wooper will add a shiny Clodsire to your collection. If you do so during the event hours (or up to five hours after it ends), the resulting shiny Quagsire will know Aqua Tail, and the resulting shiny Clodsire will know Megahorn - the exclusive Water- and Bug-type Charged moves for this Community Day.
Other Wooper Community Day bonuses
Community Days in Pokémon Go always come with a string of bonuses, and Wooper Community Day is no different.
Some of these bonuses are always the same - like increased spawns and increased shiny rates. However, there is a rotating set of other bonuses that come with Community Days, such as double or triple catch Candy, Stardust or XP.
A full list of Wooper Community Day bonuses can be found below:
- Increased spawns
- Increased shiny rate
- Quarter hatch distance
- Double catch Candy
- Double chance to receive Candy XL from catching Pokémon (for trainers Level 31 and up). This stacks with your Mega Evolution bonus, so if you have an active Level 3 Mega Evolved Pokémon, you will have whatever 'double excellent chance' works out to be!
- 3-hour Incense duration (not including Adventure Incense)
- 3-hour Lure duration (not including Golden Lures)
- Photobombs -- Take a snapshot of your buddy to earn a surprise encounter with Wooper (and increase your Cameraman medal) up to five times during the event.
- Field Research -- Spin Pokéstops to get event-exclusive tasks, similar to previous Community Day events. This is likely to be 'Catch 3 Wooper' for a couple of Great Balls or Ultra Balls, Stardust, or a Wooper encounter.
- Special Research -- For $1.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you can take part in the exclusive Wooper Special Research story, Muddy Buddy.
- Stickers -- Get event-themed stickers by spinning Pokéstops, opening Gifts and from the in-game shop.
- One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of two for the day (until 10pm local time).
- Trades made will require 50% less Stardust (until 10pm local time).
- Exclusive move -- Evolve Wooper during the event or up to five hours afterward to get a Quagsire and Clodsire that know the exclusive attacks Aqua Tail and Megahorn, respectively (until 10pm local time).
- Wooper raids -- After the three-hour Community Day event ends, Trainers will be able to take on four-star Raid Battles. Defeating Wooper and Paldean Wooper will cause these Pokémon to appear in a 300m radius around the Gym for 30 minutes. Note: Remote Raid Passes cannot be used for these raids, and the Pokémon that spawn will have the increased shiny rate that they did during the three-hour Community Day window!
