How to get the most out of Tynamo¡¯s Community Day!
July 2024 welcomes the very first Tynamo Community Dayin the world of Pokémon Go! The EleFish Pokémon will be getting its shiny release along with an exclusive move.
We’re still 100% convinced that EleFish are not a thing, but if EleFish are your thing, you’re in for a treat because they are going to be everywhere.
Tynamo is reasonable in PVP in Pokémon Go, but it is far from standout. Eelektross, Tynamo’s evolved form, is actively bad in Pokémon Go. It’s a liability in Go Battle League, and it sits between Heliolisk and Manectric in terms of raid attackers. So, all in all, it’s not great. Instead, for most people, this day is going to be about getting a brand new shiny fish.
But first, what is a Community Day? For the uninitiated, this is a reoccurring Pokémon Go event that celebrates a specific Pokémon, while boosting shiny rates and offering an exclusive move, along with a whole host of other bonuses!
Tynamo will be spawning en masse throughout the event, this is the best chance we've had for catching an Tynamo with 100% perfect IV stats and, if you achieve this feat, it's a good idea to know its evolution Eelektross’s best moveset.
Even if you're not fussed on this month’s Community Day Pokémon there are a multiple other bonuses that may get you out and about, including the quarter hatch distance bonus.

Tynamo 100% perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go
July’s Community Day is the perfect opportunity to catch a Tynamo with perfect IV stats.
'Perfect' means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there’s the maxed out, 100% IV version, which is the 15/15/15 you’re looking for your 4* Pokédex, raids and Master League. Yet, because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect IV Pokémon is generally only ever the best version of itself in the Master League.
Of course, you can’t see the IV of a Pokémon without catching it first, but with a little research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Tynamo based on the CP alone.
If you’re at Level 30 (or above), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Tynamo:
The wild CP value aligns with your Trainer Level until you reach Level 30 and, due to the majority of the player base now being above this level, we’ve kept to these values for the sake of simplicity. These values will, however, be different if you’re currently below Level 30.
Perfect for the Master League and raids means exclusively 15/15/15 - the best possible stats that a Pokémon can have.
Perfect stats in Pokémon Go, however, depend entirely on what you want to use your Pokémon for.
Perfect for Great League and Ultra League are completely different, as the goal is to get the highest level you can without going over the CP cap (1500 for Great League and 2500 for Ultra League). Since attack raises CP more than defence, the highest-level Pokémon in these leagues tend to have low attack and high defence.
If you want to run Eelektross in Go Battle League (you shouldn't), you're looking for different stats:
- A perfect Great League Eelektross is 1/15/14, reaching 1500 CP at Level 20.5
- A perfect Ultra League Eelektross is 2/15/14, reaching 2500 CP at Level 38
- A perfect Master League Eelektross is 15/15/15, reaching 3089 CP at Level 50
What does Tynamo evolve into?
Tynamo, the spuriously categorised EleFish Pokémon, evolves into Eelektrik, the EleFish Pokémon, with 25 Tynamo Candy. Eelektrik then evolves into - you guessed it - another EleFish, Eelektross, with 100 Tynamo Candy and an Unova Stone.
Why they didn’t just call it the Eel Pokémon escapes us. Tynamo is a small fish that evolves into an eel, which evolves into an eel with arms. Despite the obvious suggestion that they might be Water types, because fish, they are all mono-Electric types. Why that’s the case might be elucidated from their official Pokédex entries:
Tynamo: While one alone doesn’t have much power, a chain of many Tynamo can be as powerful as lightning. These Pokémon move in schools. They have an electricity-generating organ, so they discharge electricity if in danger.
Eelektrik: They coil around foes and shock them with electricity-generating organs that seem simply to be circular patterns. These Pokémon have a big appetite. When they spot their prey, they attack it and paralyze it with electricity.
Goodra: They crawl out of the ocean using their arms. They will attack prey on shore and immediately drag it into the ocean. It latches on to prey with its sucker mouth, sinking in its fangs and shocking the prey with powerful electricity.
Nope. They are clearly electric eels, which famously live in water, but these are not Water-type Pokémon. Go figure.
July’s Community Day event runs between 2pm and 5pm (local time), so you'll have three hours to gather as much Tynamo Candy as possible, to ensure you can fully evolve it!
If you're hurting for Candy, use Pinap Berries and Silver Pinap Berries to double the amount of candy you earn from catching, and make sure to have an Electric-type Pokémon mega evolved - Mega Manectric or Mega Ampharos will do fine.
Eelektross moves and best moveset recommendations
The best move is clearly not using Eelektross and running a better team, but that’s not the question being asked... The biggest problem with Eelektross is simply that its attack stat is too high. Because of how the CP system works, you want Pokémon with relatively low attack, as that allows them to get to higher levels at lower CPs. If that sounds confusing, don’t worry, it's just how the game works.
If you want to lose at PVP, Eelektross runs Spark, Dragon Claw and Crunch as a second Charged move. With this Community Day, however, Eelektross gains the exclusive Fast Move Volt Switch.
The original moveset is a fairly spammy combo: Spark is fast-charging and well worth running on your Electric types. The issue is that Eelektross’s only Charged move with STAB is the perishingly slow Thunderbolt. Eelektross is a glass cannon and you can’t afford to run slow Charged attacks.
So will a new Fast move make a difference? It is one of the best Electric-type fast moves, but as we’ve noted, that wasn’t the problem.
If you absolutely must run it in Great League, you can expect wins against Mantine, Skarmory, Azumarill, Mandibuzz and Lanturn, which isn’t exactly the most exciting list. Your losses, however, are a who’s-who of the top of the meta: Shadow Whiscash, Shadow Gligar, Vigoroth, Annihilape and Lickitung.
Ultra League is a little less brutal; you can expect wins against anything wet. Losses come from Steelix, Virizion, Cresselia, Giratina Altered and Talonflame. That last one is a kick in Eelektross’s many teeth, given the typings.
Master League is also pretty awful. Don’t waste your time.

What do shiny Tynamo, Eelektrik and Eelektross look like?
This Community Day event marks your very first opportunity to catch a shiny Tynamo in Pokémon Go!
As you can see below, shiny Tynamo looks almost exactly like a non-shiny Tynamo! Well, that’s disappointing.
The basic EleFish gets slightly more saturation, which isn’t saying much for an almost white Pokémon. Eelektrik, meanwhile, gets slightly more saturation... Oh well, the blue is slightly bluer, so that’s nice.
Eelektross is the first one in the evolution line that is noticeably shiny. It trades the blues for a deep green, and its fins swap from yellow to an ice-blue. That’s a decent shiny, and we look forward to getting our hands on it when it eventually comes out, it’s just a shame about the other two!

Remember to save any Tynamo you want to evolve for the end of the event, in case you catch something better later on during the day. You can always set an alarm so you don’t forget to evolve your shiny Tynamo at the end of the event!
Other Tynamo Community Day Classic bonuses
Community Days in Pokémon Go always come with a string of bonuses, and Tynamo Community Day is no different.
Some of these bonuses are always the same - like increased spawns and increased shiny rates. However, there is a rotating set of other bonuses that come with Community Days, such as double or triple catch Candy, Stardust or XP.
A full list of Tynamo Community Day bonuses can be found below:
- Increased spawns
- Increased shiny rate
- Double catch Candy
- Double chance to receive Candy XL from catching Pokémon (for trainers Level 31 and up). This stacks with your Mega Evolution bonus, so if you have an active Level 3 Mega Evolved Pokémon, you will have whatever 'double excellent chance' works out to be!
- Quarter hatch distance (for Eggs placed into Incubators during the event period)
- 3-hour Incense duration (not including Adventure Incense)
- 3-hour Lure duration (not including Golden Lures)
- Photobombs - Take a snapshot of your buddy to earn a surprise encounter with Tynamo (and increase your Cameraman medal) up to five times during the event.
- Field Research - Spin Pokéstops to get event-exclusive tasks, similar to previous Community Day events. This is likely to be 'Catch 3 Tynamo' for a couple of Great Balls or Ultra Balls, Stardust, or a Tynamo encounter.
- Special Research - For $1.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you can take part in the exclusive Tynamo Special Research story.
- Stickers - Get event-themed stickers by spinning Pokéstops, opening Gifts and from the in-game shop.
- One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of two for the day (until 10pm local time).
- Trades made will require 50% less Stardust (until 10pm local time).
- Exclusive move - Evolve Tynamo during the event or up to five hours afterward to get a Eelektross that know the exclusive attack Volt Switch (until 10pm local time).
- Eelektrik raids - After the three-hour Community Day event ends, Trainers will be able to take on four-star Raid Battles. Defeating Eelektrik will cause more Tynamo to appear in a 300m radius around the Gym for 30 minutes. Note: Remote Raid Passes cannot be used for these raids, and the Pokémon that spawn will have the increased shiny rate that they did during the three-hour Community Day window!
