Dratini 100% perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go

This week's Spotlight Hour is a great opportunity to catch a Dratini with perfect IV stats.

'Perfect' means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there's the maxed out 100% IV version, which is the 15/15/15 you need for your 4* Pokédex, raids and Master League. Yet, because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect IV Pokémon is generally only ever the best version of itself in the Master League.

Of course, you can't see the IV of a Pokémon without catching it first, but, with a little research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Dratini based on the CP alone.

If you're at Level 30 (or above), you'll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Dratini:

• Level 30 (wild CP maximum) - 861 CP
• Level 35 (weather-boosted wild CP maximum) - 933 CP

The wild CP value aligns with your Trainer Level until you reach Level 30 and, due to the majority of the player base now being above this level, we've kept to these values for sake of simplicity. These values will, however, be different if you're currently below Level 30.

Is Dragonite good in PVP?

Dragonite may be the original Dragon-type Pokémon and one of the first Pokémon ever released in Pokémon Go, but it still remains one of the best Pokémon for its type in the game. Sure Pokémon like Salamence and Garchomp have entered the fray, but Dragonite is still capable of holding its own - as long as it has the right moveset of course.

No matter the league, Dragonite runs the same attacks: Dragon Breath (Fast), Dragon Claw (Charged) and Superpower (Charged).

This is a pretty great moveset, offering an agile moveset that applies both Fast move pressure and shield pressure, meaning that you can take advantage of short attack sequences to get in more attacks more quickly, charge up your big attacks quicker, and then use those attacks to strip away your opponent's shields. There's a reason why Dragonite reigns supreme in all three of the main leagues, and this moveset certainly doesn't hurt.

There is, of course, a downside to running Dragonite, as with all Pokémon in the franchise. Here, we have two real issues to consider: weaknesses and technicality.

The weaknesses are pretty simple: as a flying dragon, Dragonite is double-weak to Ice-type attacks, and weak to Dragon, Fairy and Rock-type attacks. By and large, you should know when these are coming and when to switch out.

Onto technicality - a 'technical' Pokémon is one that is difficult to use, or that requires a bit of practise, lest you make an obvious mistake that makes the battle much more difficult than it needs to be. In this case, we're pointing the finger at Superpower – an excellent Fighting-type attack, but one that comes with the downside of a guaranteed self-debuff, dropping your attack by one stage. So, if you let loose with Superpower too early, you can really drop your chances of winning. This comes with pracise, but it's such great fun beating people down with Dragonite that you probably won't mind at all.

Is there a shiny Dratini in Pokémon Go?

Yes! Shiny Dratini, along with shiny Dragonair and Dragonite, were released back in February 2018 and this Pokémon's first Community Day.

It's important to remember, however, that since Spotlight Hours do not have a boosted shiny rate, the chances of finding a shiny are the same as it would be finding it in the wild. You simply have more chances of finding one because of the amount spawning.

What does shiny Dratini look like?

As you can see below, shiny Dratini and shiny Dragonair both share a lovely pink colour scheme which really makes these variants feel special. Shiny Dragonite throws all of this out the window though for the classic Gen 1 shiny colour - green. That's a green dragon right there...

Other tips for this Spotlight Hour

Aside from trying to catch a shiny Dratini in Pokémon Go, there's a couple of other good reasons to partake in this week's Spotlight Hour:

• The best reason, maybe even more than Dratini itself depending on how long you've been playing Pokémon Go, is the double catch XP bonus running throughout the hour. Try to focus on making Excellent Throws to make the most of this bonus! We also recommend waiting until this Spotlight Hour is live before catching your first Pokemon of the day, because, again, it will result in more XP.
• This bonus can be stacked with a Lucky Egg, which doubles the amount of XP you earn for every activity in Pokémon Go.
• If you're a newcomer, this Spotlight Hour is the perfect time to collect enough Dratini candy to fully evolve this Pokémon to enter both Dragonair and Dragonite in your Pokédex.
• Thanks to Dratini being a Dragon-type, catching a bunch during this Spotlight Hour will add progress to your respective catch bonus medal.
