Rage won't be coming out in 2009
id cools the heat on wasteland FPS.
Todd Hollenshead, id Software chief, has confirmed that the developer's next shooter Rage won't be released in 2009.
"No, it won't be out this year," he told GameTrailers in an interview conducted at DICE. The game was originally mooted for a late 2009 or early 2010 release date, so it's no great surprise.
Rage, running on id's next-generation Tech 5 engine, is a post-apocalyptic first-person action game with vehicular combat, large outdoor zones, and an open structure as well as indoor "instances" containing "more traditional id-style FPS action", according to Hollenshead.
"It's not quite open-world, but the environments are vast compared to Doom 3," he said. It'll be coming out on PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Mac.
Hollenshead promises more information on the game soon, and there's plenty of footage in the GameTrailers interview, along with some Doom 4, Quake Live and Wolfenstein chat. You can also find more on our Rage gamepage.
