How Zarude quest 'Search for Zarude' works in Pokémon Go
Research quests - tasks which players can complete for a variety of rewards - were originally released in March 2018 and are divided into a number of categories, such as field and timed.
Search for Zarude was released on Friday, 1st October 2021 as part of the Secrets of the Jungle event and, while it doesn't have a deadline due to being a special research quest, you must play Pokémon Go during this event to unlock this questline.
If you skip the Secrets of the Jungle event or started playing the game after it occurred, then you won't be able to access this quest. We do speculate that, like Jump-Start Research, Search for Zarude will be available during specific events running at a later date, but we'll have to wait and see.
At the time of writing, Zarude is the latest mythical Pokémon to be released and the only one within Gen 8. Zarude was revealed on February 27th, 2020 - also known as Pokémon Day - alongside the fact that it would play an important role in the Secrets of the Jungle movie. It's a dark and grass-type Pokémon, which is categorised as the rogue monkey Pokémon.
Interestingly, unlike previous mythical Pokémon, Zarude wasn't originally included in the game data for Pokémon Sword and Shield, with it only being included with the 1.2.0 update for the games.
With the release of this quest, Zarude becomes the eighth mythical Pokémon to be released via special research in Pokémon Go. The other Pokémon released via this method are Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Victini, Meloetta, Hoopa and Meltan. Deoxys and Darkrai are also mythical Pokémon, but they've only been made available via five-star raids.
Search for Zarude is constructed out of five quest steps, which, themselves, consist of three individual challenges. You'll receive rewards for completing both the challenges and the quest steps themselves, with the ultimate prize being, of course, Zarude.
Good luck catching Zarude in Pokémon Go!
