Pok¨¦mon Go has a global ticketed event where you'll need to pick either Red or Green versions
Colour us surprised.
Pokémon Go marks the franchise's 25th anniversary in February 2021 with a ticketed global event celebrating all of its original 151 Kanto creatures.
Two different ticket types for Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto will be offered, Red and Green, which will each offer a slightly different selection of Pokémon. Of course, this mimics the choice between the two original games released 25 years ago in Japan: Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green.
Every Kanto creature will be available in their Shiny form, some for the first time within Pokémon Go. And, following the announcement of the game's upcoming Shiny Celebi release, special research will lead to the release of an exclusive one-off Shiny Mew.
The event will be held on Saturday, 20th February from 9am to 9pm local time, and be accessible in-game wherever you are.
Within event hours, ticket holders will get an exclusive research storyline to complete on the day, which will reward a mysterious Pokémon. Completing this will then unlock a second exclusive research storyline to be completed "over a long period of time" - and it's this which will award your Shiny Mew.
Whether you have a ticket or not, all Pokémon Go players will see more Kanto spawns, get free Timed Research, be able to raid Mewtwo and the Legendary Bird trio, and be able to trade up to a distance of 40km.
Tickets cost £11.99/$11.99 and are available within the game now. A few weeks before the event you'll be prompted to pick either the Red/Green option for your ticket, so you have time to make your mind up and plan with other players who you might want to trade with.
Early Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto ticket purchases include the optional story tickets for both January and February 2021 Community Days (normally 79p each). More details on all that are over on the Pokémon Go blog.
