PlayStation 5 console design, including PS5 Digital Edition, ports, and size explained
It looks like an espresso machine - there I said it.

The PlayStation 5 console design was revealed during the PS5 reveal event in June 2020.
During this presentation it was revealed that there would, in fact, be two editions of the console - a traditional console edition and the PS5 Digital Edition.
Sony is yet to release the exact size of the PS5, but, thanks to the reveal images, we have a good idea of what to expect from the console.

PlayStation 5 console design images and trailer
Before anything else, let's watch the PlayStation 5 reveal trailer, which debuted on Thursday, June 11th 2020.
This trailer also includes a look at the DualSense controller, the controller charging station, the Pulse 3D wireless headset, HD camera and media remote.

Thanks to the official PS5 teardown, released on Wednesday October 7th, we now know that you can remove the base of the PS5 and lie the console horizontally if you prefer:
It's also possible to remove the two plastic wings of the PS5 and use the PS5 in its naked form. You will, however, do this at your own risk as, aside from decoration, the plastic panelling acts as added protection for the vital components within the PS5.
Finally, the PS5 will have two air vents on the front of the console, with the exhaust port being located on it's back:
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition explained
When the PlayStation 5 finally launches, you'll have the choice of two different console editions - a traditional console and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
The main difference between the two is that the Digital Edition will lack the disc drive, as, like the name suggests, you'll only be able to purchase digital copies of games. You will also be unable to play physical copies of any backwards compatible PS4 games or 4K Blu-ray DVDs.
The result of removing the disc drive is that the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition has a thinner, sleeker, appearance compared to the regular PlayStation 5.
PlayStation 5 size explained - how big is the PS5 compared to other consoles?
Thanks to the PlayStation 5 showcase on Wednesday 16th September, we know the exact size and dimensions for both the PlayStation 5 and the Digital Edition.
Here are the dimensions and weight for the PlayStation 5:
- Dimensions - 390mm x 104mm x 260mm (width x height x depth)
- Weight - 4.5kg
Below you can find the dimensions and weight for the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition:
- Dimensions - 390mm x 92mm x 260mm (width x height x depth)
- Weight - 3.9kg
You don't need to know the dimensions of both consoles to know that, thanks to the removal of the disk drive, the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is far slimmer than the traditional version of the console.
Fan made comparisons, however, suggest that, size-wise, the PlayStation 5 is going to tower over the console from the last couple of generations.

What ports does the PlayStation 5 have?
Due to the PlayStation 5 Showcase on Wednesday 16th September, we now which ports will be available on both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition and, thanks to the official PS5 teardown released on Wednesday 7th October, we now know the locations of each of these ports.
In the terms of USB ports, the following will be available:
- Type-A port (Hi-Speed USB)
- Type-A port (Super-Speed USB 10Gbps) x2
- Type-C port (Super-Speed USB 10Gbps)
With the Type-A (Hi-Speed USB) port and Type-C (Super-Speed USB 10Gbps) being located on the front of the PS5:
Meanwhile, both of the Type-A (Super-Speed USB 10Gbps) ports will be located on the back of the PS5:
When it comes to the power socket, the Digital Edition will have a 340W socket, while the traditional version of the console will have a 350W one.
It has also been confirmed that both consoles will, unsurprisingly, have a HDMI port, which will support 4K 120Kz TVs, 8K TVs and VRR - specified by HDMI ver.2.1. This port, alongside the AC IN connector, will be located on the back of the PS5.
For networking, both consoles will have an Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T) socket, as well as Bluetooth 5.1 and the ability to connect to Wi-Fi thanks to IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax. The LAN port will be located on the back of the PS5.
