EGX 2018: Soulcalibur, Total War, Sonic Racing and more get UK debuts
Plus developer sessions news.
Hello! I have an update for you on playable games and developer sessions at EGX 2018 - the gaming event owned and operated by our parent company Gamer Network. EGX returns to the NEC in Birmingham on 20th to 23rd September this year.
Publishers are finally ready to announce their playable offerings, and yesterday Sega and Bandai Namco confirmed five UK first hands-on appearances apiece.
Sega will bring Total War: Three Kingdoms, the strategy series' return to historical settings, due next year, and arcade racer Team Sonic Racing, which will be released later this year. Joining them will be Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise and a pair of Persona dancing games, spin-offs from the cult RPG series that will be getting their first Western release in December - Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight and Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight.
Bandai Namco, meanwhile, will be offering UK players a first opportunity to try fighting game Soulcalibur 6 - including a playable Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher series - plus aerial combat sim Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown and Man of Medan, the first game from Supermassive's just-announced horror series The Dark Pictures Anthology. The publisher's line-up of five UK exclusives is rounded out by anime crossover fighter Jump Force and My Hero: One's Justice.
Several of these games will also be showcased in the EGX Developer Sessions series of talks. Creative Assembly will be showing off Total War: Three Kingdoms at a session at noon on the Friday, and a couple of hours later developers from Sumo Digital will be introducing us to Team Sonic Racing.
On Thursday, Supermassive will host a session on The Dark Pictures Anthology, and there will also be sessions on a couple of other Bandai Namco titles - Twin Mirror, a mystery thriller by Dontnod, and 11-11: Memories Retold, a World War One story from famous animation studio Aardman.
Other developer sessions at the show include Hitman 2 with IO interactive, Lego DC Super-Villains with TT Games, and Sunless Skies with Failbetter Games.
In short, there's a lot going on and a lot more to announce in the coming weeks. Tickets for all four days are available at the EGX site. Join us there!
