Cut the Rope ties up three million sales
Free update incoming for iPhone hit.
EA-owned mobile game publisher Chillingo has another smash on its hands. Cute physics-based puzzler Cut the Rope has been downloaded three million times.
To celebrate, developer ZeptoLab is readying a batch of free content for the game. An update, due later this month, adds 25 new levels, enhanced visuals and improved scoring accuracy. Expect new animations, sounds and achievements too.
"We thank all of the amazing fans who have shared the joyful fun Cut the Rope offers with friends and family to make it a phenomenal success," said Efim Voinov, CTO of ZeptoLab.
That success is thoroughly deserved too. Eurogamer's Kristan Reed awarded the game a near-perfect 9/10 last month.
"The 1.1 update is just the beginning," Voinov added. "We hope to release an additional update just in time for the holidays and bring even more action-packed, Om Nom excitement to your fingertips!"
This will all no doubt come as good news to EA. It recently snapped up Chillingo for a cool $20 million.
Cut the Rope still has some way to go before it matches Chillingo's other big hit – iPhone phenomenon Angry Birds. That recently hit the 6.5 million mark and is on its way to consoles soon.
