"We'll never guess" what studio is developing a new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game
It's "not with EA", source teases.
A non-EA studio is reportedly developing a new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game.
The rumour comes via the B.O.B. The Podcast. Contributor Bespin Bulletin reports that a new instalment of the fan-favourite RPG is in development, adding "it's not with EA" and "we'll never guess" what studio is taking on the project.
"Amongst my digging, I heard there is a Knights of the Old Republic project in development somewhere," Bespin Bulletin said (thanks, VGC). "I talked to a couple of people, and I also found out that [Bloomberg reporter] Jason Schreier said that it's not with EA, and we'll 'never guess' who the studio is that's making this game."
"I don't know if the bounty hunter game is with them or if it's with Ubisoft," Bulletin added. "But yeah, EA is working on stuff and there's another unannounced game at EA, which I have no idea what it is. I don't think it's Battlefront 3."
Back in May 2019, it was reported a film based on KOTOR was in the works, and this time last year, it was rumoured a KOTOR reboot was also underway.
Lucasfilm's video games label re-established itself earlier this month with promise of new Star Wars games made by various partner companies like Ubisoft, including some upcoming games we knew about, and others we don't.
Massive Entertainment, the Ubisoft-owned developer of Tom Clancy's The Division, has begun work on a new open-world Star Wars game. The project utilises The Division's Snowdrop engine and is led by The Division 2 director Julian Gerighty.
The announcement seemingly marked an end to Disney and EA's much-trumpeted 10-year deal of exclusivity for AAA Star Wars projects but when asked about that 10-year period of agreement, Lucasfilm Games states that multiple EA projects remain in the works.
"We are proud of our long-standing collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, which will continue for years to come," an EA spokesperson told Eurogamer at the time.
