Sony promises to patch up PS3 hack
Planning "network updates" rearguard.
Sony is planning to tackle the recent PlayStation 3 security breach with a series of network updates, the platform holder has announced.
Earlier this week, the famously robust PlayStation 3 finally succumbed to hackers, with modified firmware allowing users to run their own programs following a few days later.
Up until now, Sony has remained silent on the issue, but today told Edge that it was working on a plan to shore up its compromised hardware.
"We are aware of this, and are currently looking into it," said a Sony spokesperson of the hack. "We will fix the issues through network updates, but because this is a security issue, we are not able to provide you with any more details."
One of the hackers responsible for the original breach believes it may not be quite as simple as that. The anonymous programmer, going by the name of pytey, told the BBC, "The complete console is compromised - there is no recovery from this.
"The only way to fix this is to issue new hardware," he said. "Sony will have to accept this."
