Sony ends Resistance
"No definitive plans" for shooter series.
It seems the Resistance series may, finally, be over.
Nearly six years after Resistance: Fall of Man launched on PlayStation 3, Sony has gone on the record to say there is no scheme to continue the franchise.
"The Resistance franchise has been exciting to work on but as for the future we have no definitive plans," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Online producer Daniel Brooke told OPM.
There have been five Resistance games, three on PlayStation 3, one on PlayStation Portable and one on PlayStation Vita. Burning Skies, developed by Nihilistic Software, launched in May this year and failed to impress critics or convince gamers to open their wallets.
While it remains to be seen whether Sony one day returns to the Resistance series, we know one thing for certain: its creator, Insomniac, is done with it.
Insomniac, which has moved on to multiplatform development with Overstrike for publisher EA, has confirmed Resistance 3 will go down as its last effort. In January 2012 boss Ted Price explained the decision, saying the company felt Resistance had "reached its logical conclusion in terms of the story that we wanted to tell".
