Say hello to Eurogamer's new US News Editor!
Fred Dutton leaving to pursue pop career.
Hello everyone! Over the past few weeks you may have noticed a new byline starting to appear with greater and greater frequency over various news stories on Eurogamer.
Jeffrey Matulef has been a friend of Eurogamer for a long while now, ever since he first walked up to me at a PAX party in 2009 and appeared to know more about the website and things I'd written than I did. (To be fair, I was 'refreshed' at the time.)
In the intervening period he's written dozens of reviews and features for us, bringing his passion for indie games, classic adventures and all things Japan to bear on everything from VVVVVV and Mutant Mudds to Grim Fandango and Okami.
As of this month, though, he finally joins us full-time as our new US News Editor. From now on, while the rest of the UK staff sleep (or, you know, seek refreshment), Jeffrey will be working through the US West Coast day to bring you everything that breaks on the other side of the Atlantic.
"But hang on," I hear you ask. "Don't you already employ the lovely and devilishly handsome Fred Dutton as US News Editor?"
It's true, we do! Unfortunately, Fred will be leaving Eurogamer at the end of the month because he's moving back to the UK. This is bittersweet news for his colleagues: on the one hand, we're thrilled that he'll be back in the country because it means we'll get to spend more time with one of the nicest people we've ever worked with, but it also means he will be leaving the Eurogamer family for the time being. We hope to have him back one day.
During his time as US News Editor, Fred has written several thousand news stories and a bunch of really interesting features. Some of my favourites include his exploration of pixel art and his piece on the cult of Psychonauts.
Fred's last day is 29th June, so for the next couple of weeks he will be sharing the US news beat while Jeffrey learns where we keep all the full-stops, commas and Camaros. We hope that you will make Jeffrey feel welcome and I know I speak for everyone at Eurogamer when I say we love Fred very much and hope to see him again soon.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got something in my eye.
