Eurocom's Egyptian fantasy
THQ takes up the publishing reigns for an original PS2/Cube adventure
We're reeling. THQ has today announced a brand new "interactive adventure" game, but what's left us gasping and wheezing as if plunged into a vat of pepper is that this is an original title. Given Eurocom as developer and THQ as publisher, surely you can forgive our confusion as to how this isn't a licensed game announcement. But it isn't! This is Sphinx (working title), a character-based action/adventure title set in a universe "styled upon" ancient Egypt.
Described as "Eurocom's most ambitious project to date", Sphinx is an original enterprise from the ground up, and promises an original story, complex mechanics, a magic system and other obvious inclusions - and will be released on PlayStation 2 and GameCube by the end of 2003. Sadly though, Eurocom hasn't been able to wax lyrical about its new game, with a teaser site promising more "soon", and the press release (outside PR fluff of course) limited to the following: " Traveling the world via magic portals to foil the evil plans of Set, players will guide Sphinx on a journey requiring all his wits, agility and special powers in an attempt to find the stolen mystical crowns of Egypt."
We hope to hear more soon. In the meantime, here are a couple of screenshots.
