All Transformers games, comics and toys will be unified across one story
Transformers: Devastation kicks off the Prime Wars Trilogy.
Various Transformers media - including video games, comics and toys - will be unified to tell the same story over the next three to four years.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the next few years of Transformers media will be unified as one canon telling the Prime Wars Trilogy.
Currently the franchise is in its first leg of that trilogy with the The Combiner Wars and Transformers: Devastation is meant to be a prequel to that saga.
"Activision's Transformers: Devastation console title presents a game specific prequel story that dovetails with the expanded Combiner War story arc told in the IDW comic book series," Activision said in a statement to Eurogamer. "As the Transformers story and franchise continue to evolve, Activision will continue to collaborate closely with Hasbro in exploring where to take the Transformers video game franchise."
The Combiner Wars will wrap up next summer and it will be followed by Titans Return next fall. The third chapter will conclude in late 2017 or early 2018.
"The fan reaction was really good," said Hasbro's head of the Transformers story team David Erwin. "And that's when we decided we wanted to make this a trilogy and really make this immersive. And when we say immersive, that means to create that experience across all different platforms, to take it across everything that we do."
One medium this unified story won't include is films as Hasbro and Paramount have made an arrangement to tell a cohesive story over the next 10 years. Movies do take a longer time to make, after all.
Transformers: Devastation launched today in the UK. According to Simon Parkin, it's more than meets the eye.
