You'll need $3000 to pre-order a Microsoft HoloLens dev kit today
It comes with a new Conker game, though.
Microsoft will begin accepting HoloLens developer kit pre-orders later today, the company has officially announced.
Thought the HTC Vive was expensive? Wait until you see the pricetag for this - oh, it's there in the title. $3000 - that's £2160.
Then again, this is for the developer build - the finished product will presumably sell for far less.
For your money you'll get a dev kit when they begin shipping on 30th March.
You'll also get three game experiences to try, including a new title starring foul-mouthed Rare squirrel Conker.
Young Conker and Fragments were developed by French licensed game developer Asobo.
The former changes its gameplay depending upon where you play the game.
"This means every person gets a unique gameplay experience, since each gamer's real world environment is unique," sunglasses-adorned Microsoft exec Tsunoda wrote. "It is amazing how different the play experience feels based on playing the game in your living room versus your kitchen or your bedroom. Even starting the game from a different position in a single room creates an entirely new gameplay dynamic."
Fragments, meanwhile, turns your living room into an augmented-reality crime drama.
"As a holographic platform highlight, Fragments demonstrates how creators can build characters and storylines that drive a higher level of emotional engagement and attachment than you can with any other medium," Tsunoda said.
"Fragments blends the line between the digital world and the real world more than any other experience we built. When your living room has been used as the set for a story, it generates memories for you of what digitally happened in your space like it was real."
Finally, there's RoboRaid - which was shown off at E3 last year named Project X-Ray. It's a first-person shooter where aliens storm through the walls of whatever room you're in.
Other software includes HoloStudio, for drawing 3D objects using 3D gestures; HoloTour, a 3D version of StreetView where you can walk around landmarks; and a HoloLens version of Skype.
Right now there's very little point in picking up a HoloLens unless you are going to develop games for it. But if you do have a spare $3k lying around...
