Xbox survey asks if you'd sell back your digital games
You'd get 10% of the purchase price.
Microsoft wants to know if you'd sell your Xbox digital games for 10 per cent of the purchase price.
The question popped up in a customer survey sent to Xbox owners, which surfaced on Reddit:
"If the console digital games store for the console you owned offered customers the option to 'sell back' their digital games to the store for 10 per cent of the purchase price in store credit, would you be interested in such an offer?" Microsoft asked.
Answer options included "Yes, for many of my digital titles", "Yes, but only for a few digital titles I no longer play", and no/not sure.
There's no suggestion you would be able to sell or trade your copy of the game with others. You would simply revoke your digital license to the title and receive the 10 per cent store credit in your account.
If you'd bought a digital version of The Division for £55, you'd get £5.50 back. If you bought a copy of Minecraft for £13, that'd be £1.30.
10 per cent is pretty low, but considering there's no current alternative, it's something of an improvement.
The survey questions raises a number of interesting questions. Would you receive back 10 per cent of the amount you paid or, if the price has since been lowered, 10 per cent of the current price? What about games bought during a sale? And how about Games with Gold downloads you acquired for free? Would Microsoft differentiate or would you receive money for them, too?
We're unlikely to hear more unless Microsoft makes the idea official.
