World of Warcraft subscriptions at nine-year low with 5.6 million
Lost 1.5m subscribers since March.
World of Warcraft subscribers dropped down to 5.6 million at the end of June 2015, Activision Blizzard announced in its latest financial report.
This makes it the least popular WoW's been since 2005.
Subscribers dropped 1.5 million during Q2 as the game had 7.1 million subscribers at the end of March 2015.
As recently as November it was over 10 million due to the release of the Warlords of Draenor expansion that proved so popular it sold 3.3m copies in a day.
Apparently the numbers were even lower during Q2 as Blizzard noted that the Fury of Hellfire expansion released on 23rd June "helped stabilise the subscriber number towards the end of the quarter."
Blizzard teased the announcement of a new WoW expansion later this week at Gamescom during its WoW event on Thursday, 6th August at 5pm UK time. Will that be enough to raise its subscriber numbers back to 10 million?
