Vigilante 8 enters XBLA certification
Car-wrecking series re-imagined for 2008.
V8: Arcade, the XBLA re-imagining of the Vigilante 8 series, has finally been submitted to Microsoft for certification, which means the game should arrive in late summer or early autumn.
Vigilante 8 started as a spin-off series of Interstate '76, and first appeared in 1998 on PSone and N64, before Dreamcast got in on some sequel action.
Smashing up opposing cars was the plan, using all manner of weaponry tacked on to your 1970s-inspired rides.
Isopod Labs, the developer behind the Live Arcade version, has the original creators onboard to help re-imagine the themes and gameplay from the V8 series, only using much more powerful technology.
This means significantly improved physics and graphics, plus the addition of four-player split-screen play and online battles for up to eight drivers.
Specifically there will be five arenas to dart around, eight cars to write off, and a bunch of classic V8-style personalities to play as, each with unique special weapons.
Vigilante 8: Arcade will cost 800 Microsoft Points, or GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60 in human money.
