Video: Uncharted 4's demo dissected
Aoife explores the plot, gameplay and bottom-modelling implications.
Digital Foundry are unbeaten when it comes to thoughtful deconstructions of game demos that attempt to answer any number of questions you have about a game's technical performance. Their take on the new gameplay reveal for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is no different, as they competently ponder whether the game has received a graphical downgrade since its initial teaser at E3 just a few short months ago - which may or may not have been running 'in-engine' on an offline render rather than on an actual console.
I love the work that Digital Foundry does - it's fascinating stuff and provides a legit, important service as we try to cut through marketing white noise to decide for ourselves whether a game is performing as well as we've been told it should. Saying all that, I much prefer to wax lyrical over whether a game will be fun to play or not, speculate on its story, and consider whether a fictional character's bottom has changed shape in the jump to current gen. These are the important questions I'll ask when nobody else will. There might even be at least one serious observation in there and everything.
