Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines lead writer gets Kickstarter funding
For old-school zombie PC RPG Dead State.
"Fangs" will be the message from Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines lead writer and designer Brian Mitsoda, whose Kickstarter drive for new zombie RPG Dead State has reached funding with 10 days to spare.
He wanted $150,000, he's got $175,000.
He can get the game finished.
Dead State is an old-school, single-player RPG for PC. Combat is strategic and turn-based, and there's a lot of text.
The premise is the beginning of an apocalyptic zombie outbreak.
"As society is beginning to fall apart, the player must organise allies, fortify a shelter, scout for food and supplies and make uncertain alliances, attempting to hold together a group as humanity teeters on the brink of extinction," reads the Dead State Kickstarter blurb.
"And although the zombies lurk as an ever present threat, the biggest obstacle to the player may just be other humans with the same goal: survival at any cost."
There will be stats, skills and perks.
There will be "dozens" of characters with reactive, branching dialogue. And there will be politics.
There will be base building, and a morale system tied into the strength of your shelter - plus your allies' faith in you, plus your track record.
"We are so sick of most zombie games," the blurb continued. "Yes, we get it, killing zombies is fun. But that's not what the zombie genre is about. It's about survival, first and foremost - the struggle of the survivors faced with adapting to a world that has succumbed to an unfathomable event."
Yes please.
