uDraw flop prompts THQ to peg back revenue outlook
But Saints Row: The Third is performing well.
Disappointing sales of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version of THQ's uDraw tablet have prompted the publisher to scale back its revenue expectations for the current fiscal quarter.
It expects its net sales for the third quarter to be around 25 per cent lower than its original guidance of between $510 million and $550 million.
"Despite uDraw's strong success on the Wii in fiscal 2011 and market research indicating strong demand for uDraw on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, initial sales of our uDraw tablet and software on these high-definition platforms have been weaker than expected," commented CEO Brian Farrell.
"WWE '12 and Saints Row: The Third are expected to perform at or better than the levels we discussed on our fiscal 2012 second quarter earnings call. As we continue to move through the third quarter, we are focused on driving sales of our key holiday titles and maximising profitability."
THQ launched the peripheral on Wii in late 2010, reporting strong sales over the Christmas period. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions followed last month.
Ubisoft might like to take note of this news - its Drawsome tablet launched in the US yesterday.
