Ubisoft's quarterly sales rise 27.2 per cent over last year
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Trials Evolution lead sales.
Ubisoft's sales for fiscal 2012 - 2013 - i.e. April to June this year - have increased 27.2 per cent over what they were at that time last year, according to a recent financial report.
The total sales came to €131 million (about £102 million) compared to the €103 (£80 million) recorded for the same period of 2011 - 2012.
The publisher singled out Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Trials Evolution as particularly hot items. The latter set a record for the highest grossing day one sales in XBLA history with over 100,000 units shifted. Between Trials Evolution and a host of free-to-play games, online sales went up 112 per cent to €27 (£21) million.
Looking ahead, Ubisoft is slightly less optimistic about its next quarter, expecting sales to dip a bit to around €110 (£86) million, which would be less than the same quarter last year which saw the better than expected sales of Driver: San-Francisco. Ubisoft is expecting big things for the open beta of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online though.
Chief executive officer Yves Guillemot stated, "Our medium-term goal is to capitalize on both the arrival of the new generation of consoles and the ramp-up of the free-to-play segment, which represent two major opportunities for us to step up growth and enhance our profitability."
"Our capacity to create successful brands and high-quality content, allied with our ongoing progress in the item-based model, multi-screen gaming and the development of Uplay (our online services and distribution platform, which now boasts 35 million members) place us in an ideal position to leverage these two opportunities."
