Treasure hunting comes to Apex Legends' season 5
Stuff of Legends.
To get us properly excited for the launch of Apex Legends' fifth season, Respawn has shared more details about what's coming up, including news of a season-long treasure hunt.
The new season will see nine pieces of a mysterious "artifact" secreted around the world, and your job is to find them all. Competitive play will be rewarded with Treasure Packs regardless of whether you're playing duos, trios, LTEs and/or ranked modes. As well as the usual rewards - crafting metals, XP, Apex Packs, and so on - you'll also unlock a new "Hunt" for every five Treasure Packs you earn. There are 45 of these packs to collect in all.
The weekly Hunts - which kick off on 19th May, unlocking once you have at least five Treasure Packs - are where you'll be able to go into Kings Canyon at night to "brave the dangers solo or with your squad and make it back alive" to find and retrieve pieces of the artifact.
While you can always join in on Hunts with your squadmates, it's important to note that you'll only get the Rewards if you've unlocked that mission yourself. Interestingly, players adventuring alone will get "a few automatic respawns" if they're knocked down.
Complete all nine Hunts and you'll secure an exclusive Weapon Charm, and a new chapter in the ongoing story of "The Broken Ghost". Recovering all nine pieces of the artifact will enable you to "unlock even more rewards, dive into the past, and uncover a secret that the Outlands might not be ready for".
As for the Broken Ghost story?
"Caught between the Apex Games and Hammond Robotics, Loba is spinning a web of lies and deceit in her personal quest for vengeance... but how far is she willing to go?" Respawn teases. "How does the Broken Ghost fit into her plans for Revenant? And what happens when one Legend stumbles upon the truth? See a side of the Legends' lives you've never seen before... outside of the Games! Alliances will be formed, friendships will be tested, vendettas will be born, and when the dust settles, nothing will be the same again in a mystery that has far-reaching consequences for them all."
A trailer followed on from last week's Stories from the Outlands, which introduced Loba as the next legend. As Emma explained at the time, new Legend Loba is in search of Revenant and revenge for her father's death, Loba ventures into a hidden facility underneath Kings Canyon, where she finds rows upon rows of simulacrums. Despite initiating a self-destruct sequence to blow up Revenant's head, her temper gets the better of her, and the head is whisked away to another location called Psamathe.
Looks like we're losing many a players favourite landing zone, too - Skull Town. The fracas in the labs was not particularly healthy for the settlement, and by the end of the trailer it can be seen sinking into the ground. Whether the entire town is gone remains a mystery, but we can certainly expect some significant changes to the area.
In any case, we won't have to wait much longer to find out what's changed, as the next season starts on 12th May.
