Everything you need to know about pets in the Friends of Mineral Town remake.
Pets in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town are animals that exist purely to play fetch with you and to look cute.
Unlike previous Story of Seasons games, however, you're not given a pet straight away. Instead, you need to unlock the ability to buy pets.
Once you've done this, you can start building a menagerie of dogs, cats, penguins and even capybaras on your farm!

Pets in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town explained
Pets in Friends of Mineral Town are fun companion creatures that you play fetch with and generally enjoy the company of. You can have cats, dogs, penguins or capybaras as pets.
Unlike the GBA version, pets don't herd animals or scare away wild dogs, which have been removed from the game. You are still able to partake in the fetch mini-game that takes place on the Beach Opening Day on Summer 1.
You can have a total of five pets living on your farm at one, but, to buy additional pets, you must first ensure that all of your current pets have a Friendship Level of eight.
It takes 60 days for a pet to become an adult and, when they do, you'll be able to play fetch with them on Mineral Beach. You don't have to feed your pet to help it grow.
Your pets will spend the majority of their time hanging out in your farmhouse, except for on sunny days, when they will venture out around your farm, until the evening. None of your pets are capable of leaving your farm, even when you're carrying it.
How to buy pets in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town
If you want to purchase a pet in Friends of Mineral Town you must first unlock Van, the travelling merchant.
Once he has started visiting Mineral Town, he will set up a pet stall in Rose Plaza on the 15th of every season, from between noon to 6pm, as long as the weather is sunny.
At this stall you'll be able to purchase a selection of pets, which rotate depending on the season. There will also be a variety of breeds for you to choose from - three if you're after a cat or dog, two if you want a pet penguin or capybara.
How to raise a pet's Friendship Level in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town
Each pet has its own Friendship Level in Friends of Mineral Town, which is represented by a number of hearts. No hearts and your pet doesn't like you at all, ten hearts and you're best friends for life.
the only real benefit of raising a pet's Friendship Level is that their ability at playing fetch will increase and, once you obtain a Level eight Friendship (eight hearts in total) you'll be able to buy a second pet.
You can check your pet's Friendship Level by opening the main menu and then scrolling to the Relationships tab to select the option 'Pets.'
This tab also allows you to check the level of skill your pet has at playing fetch - the fuller the bar, the better they are at playing the game.
There are a number of ways that you raise a pet's Friendship Level, with the main one being interacting with them. This includes talking and whistling for their attention.
You can also purchase Pet Treats from Van, which cost 1,000G each. These will only give you a small friendship boost, so don't feel like you have to spend all your hard earned money on these treats.
How to play fetch with your pets in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town
After Fall 1 in Year 1 Huang, who has a store in Zack's house on Mineral Beach, will start selling the Ball, for 100g, and the Disc, for 1000g. If you want to play fetch with one of your pets in Friends of Mineral Town, then you need to buy both of these items.
Since pets can only play fetch once they've matured into an adult, you can use the ball to practice playing them with. This will not only increase their skill at fetch, which can be checked by looking at the 'Pet' section of the Relationship tab, but will also help increase your Friendship level with them.
Once your pet is an adult, take the disc out of the Tool Box, and head down to the beach. When you're there, while holding the Disc, read the sign that sits in between Zack's House and Kai's Cafe to be offered the chance to play fetch with your pet.
It's important to note that you can play fetch during spring, summer and fall from 6am to 5pm. Even though you can access the beach whenever you like, you still have to follow the rules and not play fetch outside of these times.
Next you can select which pet you wish to play with and then the fun begins!
When playing fetch there are two important factors that you need to keep in mind.
The first is how many throws you have, which is dependent on how high your Friendship Level is with your pet. The more hearts you have, the more your pet will want to play with you and the more times you'll be able to toss the Disc.
The second is throw distance, which is represented by the gauge on the left-hand side of the screen.
This gauge is divided into three sections - green, which is where your pet will be easily able to catch the Disc, yellow, where they still have a chance, and red, which is too far for your pet.
When you're preparing to throw the Disc, the dial will move up and down this gauge and, for a successful throw, you need to ensure that dial lands in the green section.
You can increase the green section by practising fetch on your farm with the Ball or by visiting Mineral Beach to play fetch with the Disc.
Once you and your pet are skilled enough, you might even be able to win the fetch competition that happens every Beach Opening Day on the Summer 1 every year!
