Star Wars open-world RPG Kickstarter bites the dust
"All you need is the force and you will do ok in life."
The creator of a Kickstarter for a Star Wars open world role-playing game has pulled the project after enduring a week of ridicule on social media.
20-year-old Texan Devin Tripp launched the Kickstarter in the hope of raising $200,000 to create a Star Wars RPG "that will completely blow people away; like Fallout 4 or The Witcher 3 did".
Tripp, who has no game development experience, had a dream, and hoped to hire people to help make it a reality. Copyright and trademarks be damned!
The Kickstarter was mocked for the raft of typos and grammatical errors (which, dear reader, you never see on Eurogamer wot?) that littered the campaign text, such as "obi one kinobi".
Then there was the sheer folly of it all:
And there was this:
On the 4th January Tripp published the first update to the Kickstarter:
Now, Tripp has cancelled the Kickstarter for fear of being sued - this after 118 people pledged a combined $18,325.
"I would've kept this project longer, but I had a fear that some billionaire would just fund the 200k himself," he commented. "Then I would have definitely been sued."
In an inspirational final update, Tripp apologised to Star Wars owner Disney, before hitting out at his critics with some HARD TRUTHS.
So there you have it: Tripp's dream is over, as his Star Wars role-playing game Kickstarter bites the dust. Oh well. We've always got Star Wars: The Old Republic.
