Sony gives PlayStation VR a release date at E3 2016
It's nearly a reality.
Sony has announced a specific 13th October US release date for PlayStation VR. There's nothing confirmed for Europe but details usually arrive after the E3 conference ends.
We already knew PlayStation VR would be released in October and that it would cost £349.
Sony said there would be 50 games playable on PlayStation VR this year. Games shown during Sony's E3 conference included Star Wars: Battlefront VR; Batman Arkham VR coming October; and VR support of some kind for Final Fantasy 15. There was a suggestion the new Call of Duty would have VR support, too, although it's not clear at this point.
Sony announced a number of PlayStation VR games during its conference.
There was psychological horror game Here They Lie, made by developer Tangentlemen and Sony Santa Monica:
There was Batman: Arkham VR:
Resident Evil 7 will be playable in VR (we've written a preview based on the demo that's out now):
There will be an X-Wing VR mission for Star Wars: Battlefront:
And there will be a space shooter called Farpoint that debuts the new PS VR Aim Controller gun peripheral:
It's not clear whether the PlayStation VR headset will include a Move controller or a Camera. You can use it without, of course, but with the accessories you get a more complete experience. There was word of a US bundle earlier in the year but nothing was confirmed.
As well as a number of other announcements at the press conference - which you can follow with our E3 guide page - Sony recently announced the PlayStation 4K, an updated "high-end" console suggested to arrive later this year.
