Sony confirms PS5 is indeed called PS5 - and it's out Christmas 2020
Controller has haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
Sony has confirmed a few details about the PlayStation 5 - including the fact it's called PlayStation 5.
The company has also announced a Christmas 2020 release window for PS5.
"These updates may not be a huge surprise, but we wanted to confirm them for our PlayStation fans, as we start to reveal additional details about our vision for the next generation," Sony said in a PlayStation blog post.
There's a preview of the new controller that comes with the PS5, too. Two new features include haptic feedback to replace the rumble tech in the current DualShock.
"With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field," Sony said.
"You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud."
The controller has also got adaptive triggers, incorporated into the trigger buttons (L2/R2).
"Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain," Sony said.
"In combination with the haptics, this can produce a powerful experience that better simulates various actions. Game creators have started to receive early versions of the new controller, and we can't wait to see where their imagination goes with these new features at their disposal."
Sony signed off its blog post by pointing to upcoming PS4 exclusives Death Stranding, The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima. Will all three be cross-gen titles?
That's that for PS5, then. It's called PS5 and it's out in time for Christmas next year. If you need a catch-up, here's our PS5 guide.
