Shovel Knight set to launch this month on Steam
Wii U and 3DS versions dated for North America, but not Europe.
Retro platformer Shovel Knight is slated for a 26th June release on PC, Mac and Linux via Steam, developer Yacht Club Games has announced.
The developer noted in its latest Kickstarter update that the 26th release will also bring the game to Wii U and 3DS in North America, but it might take a bit longer for it to reach certification in Europe. "We've been working through localisation and ratings specific to the European region. Hard working developers and publishers who have come before us have helped improve this process and so we have been receiving great support. We hope that we will have good news to share soon," the developer explained.
It's a shame it's taking longer for Europe to get Shovel Knight on Nintendo platforms, as these will each host an additional unique gameplay feature. The Wii U version will have a Demon's Souls-esque hint system where players can leave messages for one another, while the 3DS version will have asynchronous battles in which players pre-record their moves in five second blips, then see how they play out against each other.
Shovel Knight made quite an impact on Kickstarter where it raised $311,502. Not bad, given that the former WayForward staff at Yacht Club was only asking for $75K.
