Sam Fisher officially joins Ghost Recon Wildlands from tomorrow
And there's a free weekend coming.
Ubisoft has detailed the mysterious Splinter Cell/Ghost Recon Wildlands crossover it teased last week, confirming that Sam Fisher will join Wildlands from tomorrow.
Fisher arrives as part of Special Operation I - the first of four free updates planned for Ghost Recon Wildlands' new season of content, due to launch on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 tomorrow, April 10th. The update will include various Splinter Cell themed goodies, including a new PvE mission, a new PvP class, and new customisation items.
Wildlands' Splinter Cell PvE mission will be set at night and is, unsurprisingly, focussed around stealth. Here, players - either working solo or co-operatively in groups of up to four - can help Fisher (once again voiced by Michael Ironside) complete a high-risk infiltration mission in fictionalised future Bolivia. Ubisoft says the new mission is "one of the most difficult [...] the Ghosts have ever faced". You can see some of it unfolding in the trailer above.
By completing the mission, players can earn Splinter Cell themed items, including Fisher's sonar goggles, which come with a night-vision filter. Ubisoft notes that while the new mission will remain in-game indefinitely, the special rewards will only be available until May 16th.
Elsewhere, Special Operation 1 adds the Echelon, a new assault class that will be available for use across all Ghost War PvP modes. The Echelon - part of Sam Fisher's Fourth Echelon team - has access to a range of high-tech equipment and the new Sonar Pulse ability, which can reveal enemies behind walls at short range.
Additionally, the new update will introduce the Splinter Cell Gear Pack, featuring Splinter Cell inspired customisation items and weapons. There's a close combat blade, known as the Karambit Knife, and a fully customisable SC 4000 prototype assault rifle.
Ubisoft has also announced that it will be holding a Ghost Recon Wildlands free weekend from April 12th to April 15th on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Participants will have access to the full game for the duration of the event, including the Ghost War PvP mode, last year's Predator crossover PvE mission, and the newly unveiled Splinter Cell content.
