Sam & Max Season 2 likely, Telltale working on 360/Wii
Dan Connors on this and that.
Telltale CEO Dan Connors fully expects the episodic Sam & Max adventure series to continue into a second series, and has confirmed that the developer is working on games for Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii - and aims to produce for all three next-gen consoles.
"I don't think we'd miss out on that opportunity," Connors told Shacknews when asked about whether we'd see a second "season" of Sam & Max. "We'll be able to make that happen for sure." Whether or not Telltale will continue to work with GameTap - the US digital distribution service that gets two weeks of exclusivity on new episodes - is hard to say, but Connors says it's "very possible".
As for recent job postings seeking Wii and Xbox 360 programmers, Connors says "we're hoping to get on both consoles, with Live Arcade and Virtual Console - I'm sorry, on all three consoles! But we're starting with Wii and Xbox, on both of their online services and retail as well." Whether that specifically means Sam & Max games on both formats, or another product, isn't discussed.
Connors also defended the first season of Sam & Max against complaints of repetition in level design. While he admits it's "something we're going to sit down and look at our strategy for", he also notes that the team has been going back and putting in new jokes and ongoing stories.
"I think if this were a regular adventure game, it wouldn't really be a shock to return to the same unchanged place after four hours of gameplay," he adds.
"We've put some extra pressure on ourselves to make it a unique experience each time, but I think solving that is going to give us a lot of good idea about storylines that evolve over time, and what can be changed that adds to the story and the experience. I think the problem-solving part of it is going to be a good thing to sink our teeth into creatively."
The first four episodes of Sam & Max Season 1 are available to buy now from Telltale Games' website at US$ 8.95 each or US$ 34.95 for the complete series of six. Episode five - Reality 2.0 - is due for release next month, and JoWooD recently revealed that it will be producing a boxed version of the first season for release in August.
