EVE Online: The 2nd Genesis (PC)

EVE is Online Elite. (I could end the review there really!)
You fly a spaceship looking to earn money in a multitude of ways. You need money to buy stuff, lots of stuff! More stuff than you can possibly imagine. It's a perpetual, constantly evolving universe. It evolves through online updates and player interaction. Things change... A lot! Things aren't the same as when I first started playing a few months ago... I'm not complaining... I hope things are different in a few months time too.
In EVE you do what you want. You can be good/bad or indifferent. Maybe fly round in huge groups, patrolling areas of space in a player run alliance. Fighting wars with other alliances or corporations. Or play by yourself, not talk to anyone and do whatever you want to anybody and not care about consequences. Be bad, harass people, kill them, gain a corporation's trust and rip them off. Be good and help people, meet friends, share information, help kill the bad people.
Like most online MMORPG games it has what's called a skills treadmill. You have to learn skills to be able to use more items like ships and guns etc. You can't just buy the biggest gun and spaceship and fly it straight away. It might take a month or two before you can. This is mostly to keep you paying a monthly fee but also it gives a reason to play, having a goal to aim for, new things to learn, etc, which unlock your potential to use more items. New items are great. They are like new toys to play with.
I love this game. I haven't played a single other game since getting it over three months ago. (In fact it might be four, I've lost track of time.) But there lies the downside to the whole thing - it is more than a game, you have a real character that needs lots of attention spent on him/her. It needs lots of time spent playing it, lots! More time than you can possibly imagine. If you have a social life, a job, a wife or girlfriend, then do not buy EVE. You run the risk of losing it all. It is that addictive and time consuming. There should really be a health warning on the box.
Anyway it's silly giving it a score but obviously its 10/10. (Or 1/10 for that fact it's ruined my social life and turned me into a MMORPG bore!) This is Mingster from INCOM, the best corporation in the whole EVE universe, signing off.
