Pok¨Śmon Sun and Moon lets you train monsters past the level 100 cap
Get hyped.
The upcoming Pokémon Sun and Moon lets you train your Pokémon further, beyond the usual level cap of 100, via a new mechanic.
Hyper Training is a brand new feature for this winter's 3DS games and is only available for Pokémon you have levelled up to 100.
In layman's terms, this new mechanic simplifies - enormously - the complicated process of breeding generations of a particular Pokémon species until you get a monster with the perfect stats.
It is now possible to take a Lv 100 critter and use Hyper Training to boost all of its six IV categories - the base stats of its HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack and Defence plus Speed - to their maximum.
You could already do this in the games, but this could take days of work to do.
Plenty of people only play Pokémon games for the story - to beat the Elite Four, or to fill their Pokédex.
For those who do push on further, Hyper Training will be a godsend. But it's easy to see how this might finally make all those stat numbers seem a lot more accessible for those who don't.
That's not to say Hyper Training will be a walk in the park. You still have to work to upgrade your Pokémon - and collect bottle caps to trade in with a new character, Mr Hyper (no, we're not joking). It sounds like these items will be fairly rare, and you may need the right one for the right stat.
