PlayStation 4 is top-selling console for five months straight in the US
3DS second, while Mario Kart 8 sees Wii U improve.
May's US hardware sales have once again seen PlayStation 4 crowned king - for the fifth month straight.
Sony's platform also shifted more software than any other system, US numbers company NPD has reported (thanks, GamesIndustry International).
But it was a rosy month for all platforms, thanks to the launch of Mario Kart 8 on Wii U and Watch Dogs for almost everything else.
Hardware sales rose 95 per cent over last May to $586m (£345m), while console software sales rose by 57 per cent to $274m (£161m).
Nintendo's 3DS was the second-best selling hardware last month, while Wii U sales rose 85 per cent despite Mario Kart 8 only being on sale for two days of the month.
Watch Dogs was May's top-selling game in the US, followed by Mario Kart 8, MLB 14, Wolfenstein: The New Order and Minecraft. Spider-Man 2, NBA 2K14, Titanfall, Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Call of Duty: Ghosts rounded out the month's software top 10.
Next month's figures will reveal the sales impact of Microsoft's Kinect-less Xbox One SKU. Announced last month, this may have also had a knock-on effect, lowering May sales.
