Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata won't attend E3 for health-related reasons
It's the first E3 he's skipped in years.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata won't attend E3 2014 due to health-related reasons, the company has announced.
On medical advice, Iwata is not currently conducting trips overseas and will instead remain in Japan for the duration of the show, Nintendo confirmed to Polygon.
Like last year, Nintendo will again broadcast a pre-recorded presentation rather than hold a live event - meaning Iwata's presence is not necessarily required - but it is still the first show he has missed in several years.
Nintendo did not elaborate on Iwata's condition further, but offered the following statement:
"He's been instructed by his physician not to travel overseas in the immediate future, and so he will not be making the trip to Los Angeles.
"It is business as usual for Mr. Iwata, and he continues his normal duties as president of Nintendo Co., Ltd. while he remains in Japan. As always, he will be actively involved in all of Nintendo's activities at the show."
Nintendo UK has separately confirmed to Eurogamer that Iwata will not attend E3 this year.
