Doom 3 Xbox, PC expansion in March 2005
That's Activision's current target, anyway, but the company concedes that the final call is down to id Software.
Activision no longer expects to ship the Xbox version of Doom 3 within 2004. According to a report on GameSpot, company president Ron Doornink this week said that the publisher is now shooting for March 2005 - although he also conceded that the date was "for planning purposes only" and that id Software had the final say.
The Xbox version of the first-person shooter, which features Xbox Live co-operative multiplayer support, is being developed by Vicarious Visions under close supervision by id Software, and the Texan developer retains final approval on the project.
Doornink also intimated that newly announced PC expansion pack Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil is expected in the same timeframe, but, as with the Xbox version, "id Software makes the final decision as to the release date." Resurrection of Evil, announced on Monday, is in development at Nerve Software under id's supervision.
News of the Xbox delay won't come as too much of a surprise to most, though, as id CEO Todd Hollenshead has already publicly, "It's probably not going to come out this year." Speaking to Reuters in August, Hollenshead said, "Back in May, we were kind of hoping we'd have a holiday launch," but then admitted, "I'm not sure we're going to get there."
