Wii to cost $250 or less
6m to ship by March next year.
Nintendo has announced that the Wii will cost less than $250, or around £130 in the old money, when it goes on sale later this year.
The company plans to ship 6 million Wii units by the end of March - the very same target that Sony has set itself, funnily enough.
The news came as part of Nintendo's latest financal report, which revealed that operating profit has fallen by 19 per cent in the last year. The drop was attributed to slow demand for GameCube and GBA, and the costs associated with developing a brand new console.
But net profits rose by 12.5 per cent, thanks to huge DS sales. Nintendo reckons it'll shift 16 million DS units and 70 million games by the end of the current business year, which ought to boost its operating profit by 22 per cent.
