Xbox Live Marketplace content unveiled

Microsoft has unveiled the Xbox Live Marketplace Content that will be available to Xbox 360 owners from the moment the console launches on December 2.

There will be more than 400 items of downloadable content, including free playable demos of FIFA 06, Kameo, King Kong, NBA Live 06 and Need for Speed Most Wanted. Not to mention all manner of game trailers, pictures and desktop themes - see below for a detailed list.

Along with all the free stuff, the Xbox Live Marketplace will offer premium content which you can buy with what they're calling Microsoft Points. These can be purchased via the Xbox Live Dashboard, or from your friendly neighbourhood games shop, priced at £17.50 for 2100 points.

Gamer pictures will retail for 20 points, while themes will cost 150 and for 500 points you can buy a load of NFL logos, if you like that sort of thing. More excitingly, you'll be able to purchase six new cars for Ridge Racer 6 - but they're still not saying when the game's actually out, or how much the cars will cost.

You can also use Microsoft Points to buy Xbox Live Arcade games, which with prices that start at 400 points and range all the way up to 1200. The majority of titles, however, will cost 800 points or less - and cheapskates can download demos of all the games for free.

"We're incredibly excited about providing gamers with that they want - inexpensive and entertaining digital content delivered right to their Xbox 360," said Xbox marketing bigwig Peter Moore.

"Xbox Live Marketplace puts the buying power directly into the consumer's hands, allowing each person to choose digital content they want, when they want it."
