32 Japanese devs working on Nintendo DS

A total of 32 Japanese games companies are working on the Nintendo DS, with 64 Japanese games currently undergoing development, Nintendo has announced this week, not including the 20 titles that the platform holder is developing internally.

Following the appearance on the Internet earlier this week of a translated version of a Japanese games list, Nintendo has issued an official version, which also reiterates that some 120 games are in development for the format worldwide - more than 70 of which are being produced in Japan.

Although the new list is ostensibly the same, and crucially none of the big names have been withdrawn, it's worth printing this one too because it features a number of titles (however obscure) that weren't on the original.

Games from the likes of Aki, Aruze, Epoch, Jamsworks, MTO and Sunrise join in on this iteration, while Capcom is apparently working on a Gyakuten Saiban (Objection Court) game in addition to the others we know about, and Genki has Detective Kibukawa in development. Obviously we're big fans of that (err).

The list also features previously announced E3 titles like Egg Monster Heroes from Square Enix, Bomberman from Hudson Soft, Yu-Gi-Oh! from Konami (which is still the best represented publisher on the list), KOEI's trio of titles, and the five Atlus games announced last month including Shin Megami Tensei DS.

And, of course, there are the prospects we mentioned on Monday, including Harvest Moon, Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, Winning Eleven, Castlevania and Viewtiful Joe - all of which we're extremely eager to see in action.
