Next-gen McRae confirmed
And coming in 2007.
Codemasters has confirmed that a new Colin McRae Rally game is currently in development for next-gen platforms.
But which platforms, exactly? Well, they're not saying just yet, but we do know that the new game "will go beyond the series' point-to-point rallying to deliver the most diverse selection of extreme off-road competitions." EVER, presumably.
You can expect mud, dirt and gravel racing events from all over the world, including Hill Climb and Rally Cross competitions. There will be officially licensed cars and tracks based on their real-life counterparts, plus an online multiplayer mode.
"The all-new Colin McRae Rally will be a real evolution for the series and offer a massive variety of off-road events, more than any other single-championship rally game has before," according to executive producer Gavin Raeburn.
"It's being designed to offer a totally accessible, high-speed and adrenalin-fuelled ride for newcomers to the series, yet race hardened McRae players will be able to delve under the bonnet and immerse themselves in the most challenging of competitions." Well, the second most challenging of competitions, the first most challenging being to produce a press release about a driving game that doesn't include the phrase "adrenaline-fuelled", obviously.
CMR'07, as it's been workingly titled, is out next year, with one shot to check out in the meantime.
