Unreal 3 and more UT games planned
All new title comes first, but a sequel to Unreal 2 will be coming 'eventually' says Epic's Mark Rein, along with an Unreal engine 3-powered UT.
Epic's talk of an all-new title may have pushed Unreal 3 off the radar for now, but the Raleigh-based company still has long-term plans for a sequel, the company's boss Mark Rein admitted yesterday.
In an interview published today on Eurogamer, Rein said Epic's immediate plan was to get its all new title out of the door in early 2006, but that its plans for Unreal were very much in its thoughts: "We have no current plans for Unreal 3, but eventually we'll do one. For sure we'll do another Unreal Tournament game, and we'll do it with this technology."
It would seem unlikely, then, that we'll see an Unreal 3 until 2007 at the earliest, but UT fans can undoubtedly expect an Unreal 3-powered version of the multiplayer game to be released in 2006/7. Until then, it seems fans of the series will have to make do with annual incarnations of UT using tweaked versions of its second gen tech.
