New director for Castlevania film
Anderson steps aside.
Paul W.S. Anderson of Event Horizon and Mortal Kombat fame [surely "genius" - Ed] has stepped aside from directing duties on the Castlevania film.
Filling his shoes for a seven-figure sum will be Sylvain White, responsible for Stomp The Yard and I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.
The script will be rewritten by Anderson and White to accommodate the change in direction.
Sylvain White is apparently a big fan of the Castlevania games, and jumped at the chance to try his hand at a big-screen adaptation.
"Most of the vampire films have been present or set in the future, from 'Blade' to 'Underworld,' and I was attracted by the chance to make a dark, epic period movie that almost has an anime feel to it," said White.
White also has the go-ahead to make a film based on the Frank Miller graphic novel Ronin - a licence that isn't easy to come by. It shows someone clearly has faith in his abilities.
The Castlevania film is due for a release in late 2008.
