Long-awaited Diablo 3 patch 2.0.1 goes live
And already there seems to be a problem...
The long-awaited Diablo 3 patch 2.0.1 has arrived - and it's already causing players a problem.
The patch, released today ahead of the Reaper of Souls expansion, makes significant changes to the game and adds the Loot 2.0 system. While it's still being rolled out in Europe, the post-patch servers are live in the US, and there players have discovered a new bug that Blizzard will do well to address as quickly as possible.
Here's the background: the new patch introduces Bind on Account status to legendary items, which means only the person who looted it or one of the other party members present at the time of the kill can use it.
If a trade is to be made among the party, it must be done within two hours of the item appearing.
Here's the problem: according to player reports, Blizzard is yet to prevent Bind on Account items from being listed on the Auction House, which is due to be closed down in the next few weeks.
So, players can post BOA legendary items to the Auction House. But if someone buys one of these items, they lose the gold they spent on it - and a message reveals the item can't be used on their account.
One affected player, Bababooey, wrote on the Battle.net forum: "Just unknowingly bought some BoA gear.. can't even send it to my stash. Says its tradeable with 2 other accounts that are not mine. Please fix this blizzard =(" There are other threads reporting the same issue.
There are a couple of potential explanations. One, these items were posted to the Auction House before the patch went live, and Blizzard, for whatever reason, did not conduct a sweep to block legendary items already posted on there from being sold.
Or two, these were items posted to the Auction House after the patch, in which case Blizzard has some work to do.
Blizzard will no doubt move quickly to fix this issue and replace any gold lost, but for now, we recommend not buying legendary items from the Auction House - or putting them up for sale.
