Just Cause 4's latest gameplay video shows off chaotic tornado action
Plot twist.
Avalanche Studios has unveiled a brand-new slice of gameplay footage from its upcoming stunt-action spy extravaganza, Just Cause 4 - this one showcasing the game's devastating tornados.
According to Avalanche, these "fully physicalized" tornados are just one of four so-called Extreme Weather simulations in Just Cause 4 (the others including intense lightning storms and blizzards), and are able to "rip through the landscape, send huge pieces of debris spiralling through the air and tear aeroplanes out of the sky".
The latest gameplay video, which you can see below, demonstrates a mission specifically based around pursuing one of these tornadoes, and involves hurtling along in a brand-new vehicle - the heavily armoured Storm Chaser - in order to reach a base that lies in its path.
It's certainly befitting of Just Cause 4's love of preposterously over-the-top stunts and set-pieces, and sees Rico giving chase as the storm shreds buildings, rips through bridges, and launches anything and everything - from shipping crates to articulated lorries - straight into the air. What goes up, must come down though, slamming back to earth in dangerously haphazard, and often explosive, fashion. Avalanche claims that "the trajectory of every object is being calculated in real-time, opening up unique and brand new gameplay opportunities".
With the tornado passed, Rico must then turn his attention to the powerful wind cannons stationed at a base run by paramilitary group the Black Hand (Just Cause's evil-organisation-du-jour) and holding the tornado at bay - whereupon a more open-ended objective unfolds.
Destroying the cannons can be achieved, if you so wish, by using the new railgun. This is capable of shooting a powerful beam of energy or deploying a supporting drone as its secondary ability - and it's even possible to grapple onto the drone and fling Rico through the air if the action wasn't already quite outlandish enough for you.
Alternatively, you might consider remotely attaching multiple boosters and airlifters to the cannon (or indeed to any object in the game) using Rico's enhanced grappling hook. Either option is exactly as ridiculously devastating as you might imagine.
It's certainly an impressively anarchic taste of Avalanche's latest gung-ho action spectacle, and we'll no doubt see more as Just Cause 4's Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC release on December 4th approaches.
