Jurassic World Alive is Pok¨¦mon Go with dinosaurs
No one's fossil you to play.
Augmented reality app Pokémon Go made around $800m last year - so it's no surprise others are still trying to cash in on the same idea.
Jurassic World Alive is the latest, but probably not last, big budget franchise to try and muscle in on the Pokémon Go formula - this time by unleashing dinosaurs around your local neighbourhood.
The app - which is headed to iPhone, iPad and Android devices in the near future - tasks you with tracking down dinos to extract their DNA, rather than trying to capture them in Pokéballs.
Captured DNA then helps level up your research on a particular species so you can create new dinosaurs in your lab, and so you can then put them into battle against other players' own dino creations.
Player-verus-player arena battles are one thing which Pokémon Go does not yet have. Despite mentioning the feature in the past, Pokémon Go developer Niantic is still to add it into the game.
I'm curious, though, about how Jurassic World Alive's map will reflect your surroundings. Screenshots show PokéStop-style icons dotted around - the icon is extremely similar, in fact - but Pokémon Go is based on crowd-sourced location data obtained through Google/Niantic's previous game Ingress.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the next movie in Hollywood's biggest dinosaur franchise, is due to release in June. Planet Coaster developer Frontier is making a dinosaur park management sim as another tie-in.
