Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN announced by Arc System Works
Unreal Engine fighting game drops sprites.
Arc System Works has announced a new game in the Guilty Gear series - considered by some to be the best fighting game franchise.
At its 25th Anniversary festival event in Yokohama, Japan over the weekend, the Japanese studio announced Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN. We don't know which platforms it'll release on, but a trailer, below, shows a battle between Guilty Gear's Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske. Millia Rage turns up at the end in a brief cameo.
Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN is directed by franchise creator Daisuke Ishiwatari, who doubles as the game's composer. It's built using the Unreal engine and, in a first for the series, won't feature sprites.
In a 2011 interview with Eurogamer Ishiwatari said Arc System Works halted work on Guilty Gear in favour of the BlazBlue series because Guilty Gear "got too hardcore for some people".
"Also, the generation of Guilty Gear players has become a certain age - maybe a little bit too old for playing games. So making that reset brings in a new generation of fighting game players. Then they will be with us for the next few years."
