Kill Trevor, kill Michael or Deathwish? Last mission choices in GTA 5 explained
After the events of The Big Score in GTA 5, the player is switched to Franklin. When Franklin arrives at his house, Devin Weston visits him and tells him to kill Michael. Franklin refuses and tells Devin that the FIB wants him to kill Trevor.
Devin gives him the last mission choice:
- Kill Trevor
- Kill Michael
- Deathwish
Choosing one of these options immediately triggers the end game mission. If you want to experience all three endings, then you should save before making a decision.
The best option to choose is Deathwish as its the only option that sees all three characters survive.
Kill Michael option
Choosing to kill Michael in GTA 5 will result in a confrontation out by the satellite dishes. After a brief conversation, Michael realizes that Franklin has been sent to kill him. Michael gets into his car and a chase ensues. After a few minutes, they arrive at the power station. Michael leads Franklin on a foot chase up walkways and stairs.
They arrive at a tall chimney where Franklin tackles Michael. They continue to fight, and Franklin punches Michael, causing Michael to fall over the railing. Franklin has a choice to either save Michael or let him fall, but Michael still falls to his death regardless of the choice. The game ends with Franklin calling Lamar to patch things up.
Kill Trevor option
Choosing to kill Trevor in GTA 5 results in a confrontation by the oil fields. On his way to meet Trevor, Franklin calls Michael for help who agrees to aid him. Franklin meets Trevor, and after a brief conversation, Trevor understands that Franklin is there to kill him. Trevor gets in his truck and drives off, leaving Franklin to chase after him.
The car chase ends at an oil field where Trevor is rammed into an oil tank by Michael's car. Crawling out of the car, Trevor goads Franklin into killing him. With one shot, Franklin lights the spilled oil, setting Trevor on fire. The game ends with Michael and Franklin reflecting on Trevor and their actions before they part ways.
Deathwish option
Deathwish is the canon ending for GTA 5 since Michael, Franklin, and Trevor are supposed to survive in the end.
Choosing the Third Way results in an all-out fight against all the factions that have wanted to take Michael, Trevor, and Franklin down throughout the game. Franklin meets with Lester to discuss the problem.
After brainstorming solutions, they come up with a plan to lure Haine's FIB agents and Weston's Merryweather mercenaries to the same location. Franklin calls Lamar for backup as he meets Trevor and Michael at the Foundry.
What follows is a firefight between FIB agents, Merryweather, Michael, Franklin, Trevor, and Lamar. Defeating the FIB agents and Merryweather puts an end to their threat, but it is decided that it is best to settle the score with everyone.
They decide to split the task amongst themselves: Michael will take out Stretch and the Ballas, Franklin will take out Wei Cheng and the Triad, and Trevor will eliminate Steve Haines.
After these groups are dealt with, Trevor kidnaps Devin Weston, stores him in the trunk of a car, and parks the car on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Eventually, Devin is confronted by Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, who all say their goodbyes before pushing the car off the cliff.
The game ends with Michael, Franklin, and Trevor parting ways as dysfunctional friends.
Congrats on finishing GTA 5! There is still plenty more to do, of course - including finding spaceship part locations, finishing up any remaining gold medals or Strangers and Freaks missions, or mastering how to storm the miliary base.
